Meet the dentist behind the practice

Hi, I’m Dr. Fatima Maarouf, and dentistry found me long before I chose it as a career.

I grew up in Lebanon in a family that valued education deeply, and I spent much of my own childhood in the dental chair. I had braces, extractions, root canals, crowns — the kind of experiences that make you very aware of how much trust goes into dental care. When I was around 18, my own dentist suggested I shadow him. I did, and something clicked.

I loved the blend of art and medicine. I loved that dentistry allowed you to diagnose, treat, problem-solve, and build relationships with people over time. I also understood what it felt like to be the patient, which still shapes the way I practice today.

I studied biology at the American University of Beirut, earned my dental degree at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, and completed a general practice residency at Tufts University in Boston. I have been practicing for 15 years, and in 2024 I earned my FAGD.

What I care about most is listening. Not just hearing what tooth hurts or what treatment someone thinks they need, but really understanding what each patient wants from their smile, their health, and their experience in our office.

A practice shaped around comfort and connection

Our office in the Chevy Chase Building on Wisconsin Avenue is a place we are shaping with intention. Our team — Katia at the front of the practice as office manager, Genaro assisting chairside, and Ana welcoming patients at the front desk — shares the same belief that dental care should feel calm, clear, and personal.

We are refreshing the space toward something more modern, clean, and sleek, and we are continuing to invest in tools that make care easier and more precise. Our TRIOS scanner replaces traditional goopy impressions with quick digital scans, and we will be adding CBCT imaging soon for more detailed diagnostics.

For us, modern dentistry is not just about technology or design. It is about creating an experience where patients feel informed, respected, and taken care of from the very beginning.

Chasing Smiles is a general dentistry practice serving Chevy Chase, NW DC, Bethesda, and nearby communities. Day to day, we provide routine cleanings, periodontal care, restorative dentistry, implant restorations and maintenance, cosmetic services, dentures, and more.

I especially enjoy the areas of dentistry where function and artistry come together: shaping a tooth so it looks natural, rebuilding a smile so it feels comfortable again, or helping someone feel confident enough to smile freely.

We also provide denture solutions, including partials and options for patients who may need overdenture or hybrid restorations. When treatment falls outside what we do in-house, such as impacted wisdom teeth or implant placement, we refer to trusted specialists and stay involved in your ongoing care. You are never simply handed off and forgotten.
